The Ward 8 Democrats released the following statement on the death of Marion Christopher Barry, son of former mayor and Ward 8 councilman Marion S. Barry and a beloved member of the Ward 8 community.
The Ward 8 Democrats joins with members of our community in mourning the loss of long-time resident and former Ward 8 Democratic city council candidate Marion Christopher Barry, the son the late mayor, councilman and civil rights leader Marion S. Barry.
“Christopher, as he was affectionately known, was an increasingly visible figure here in Ward 8,” said Ward 8 Democrats President Charles Wilson. “He took up his father’s mantle of speaking up for the disadvantaged or those suffering injustices in the criminal justice system, yet he was blazing his own path and becoming his own man with dreams of a better Ward 8. He will be missed.”
One of the stops along his path included opening a construction business where he brought attention to the value of small business and connecting people with jobs. Most recently, Christopher threw his support behind current Ward 8 Democratic city council nominee Trayon White to succeed this father in a full term this fall.
Christopher was warm, talented and friendly. More importantly, he was beloved by many in our city. We send our condolences to his grandmother Polly Lee Harris and step-mother Cora Masters Barry.”
