Vincent Orange Wins Ward 8 Democrats Endorsement for At-Large DC Council Seat

Congress Heights, DC—Today, registered Ward 8 Democrats voted to endorse current Councilmember Vincent Orange over challenger Robert White and David Garber to become the next Democratic At-Large Councilmember for the District of Columbia. The endorsement followed a spirited debate where all three candidates laid out their vision and plan for advancing the Ward. The event was moderated by NBC4 Reporter Mark Segraves.
With a total of 128 ballots counted, Councilmember Vincent Orange received 88 votes for 69 percent of the vote. Robert White came in second with 37 votes cast for 29 percent of the vote. David Garber received three votes for a total of two percent of the vote. A vote percentage of 60 percent or more was required to receive an endorsement from the Ward 8 Democrats.
The Executive Committee congratulates Councilmember Vincent Orange for winning the endorsement of the Ward 8 Democrats. We hope many of the issues facing Ward 8 residents such as public safety, education, housing and development will remain top of mind as we work to make our Ward great. We would like to thank Mr. White and Mr. Garber for their participation and engagement of Ward 8 Democratic voters.
The Ward 8 Democrats will host an endorsement forum for Ward 8 Council candidates at Anacostia High School on Saturday, May 14 from Noon to 2 pm.
